Easy2Swim Swimming Academy is fully committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all staff, learners, visitors, and contractors. This policy outlines how we ensure compliance with South African health and safety legislation and STA standards, and our shared responsibility to minimise risks associated with swimming, training, and operational activities.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all areas of Easy2Swim's operations, including:
- Swimming lessons and training sessions
- Office and administrative activities
- Use of pool facilities and surrounding environments
- Events and any off-site training activities
3. Policy Statement
Easy2Swim aims to:
- Provide and maintain safe facilities, equipment, and working conditions
- Prevent accidents, injuries, and illness through risk management
- Ensure all staff receive appropriate safety training and supervision
- Foster a culture where health and safety are everyone's responsibility
- Comply with all applicable South African legislation and local by-laws
4. Responsibilities
Centre Co-ordinator (Zandri Stiff):
- Has overall responsibility for ensuring compliance with this policy
- Conducts regular health and safety reviews and ensures staff are trained
- Maintains records of incidents, risk assessments, and emergency procedures
Instructors, Staff, and Contractors:
- Must comply with safety instructions, use equipment correctly, and report hazards immediately
- Participate in any mandatory training or refresher sessions
- Set an example for learners and members of the public
Learners and Visitors:
- Are expected to follow all posted safety signs and verbal instructions
- Must report any unsafe conditions or incidents to staff immediately
5. Risk Assessment
Easy2Swim conducts regular risk assessments for all operational areas, including pool safety, chemical storage, electrical systems, and emergency evacuation. Results are documented and reviewed quarterly, with corrective actions tracked to completion.
6. Emergency Procedures
Emergency Response
Emergency procedures are clearly displayed at all pool and office areas. All staff are trained in:
- Fire evacuation and alarm systems
- First aid and CPR
- Reporting accidents and completing incident forms
Emergency drills are conducted twice annually.
7. Accident Reporting
All accidents, incidents, and near-misses must be reported to the Centre Co-ordinator using the Incident Report Form. Incidents are logged, investigated, and reviewed to prevent recurrence.
8. Training and Supervision
Staff Training Requirements
All staff receive induction training that includes:
- Safe pool operations and water safety
- Chemical handling and manual handling procedures
- First aid and emergency response awareness
Refresher training is provided annually or whenever procedures change.
9. Monitoring and Review
The Centre Co-ordinator will monitor:
- Compliance with this policy
- Risk assessments and control measures
- Training and accident records
This policy will be reviewed annually or after any significant incident or operational change.
